16.11.1 Using MS Excel for Exponential Smoothing
Click Tools/Data Analysis/ Exponential Smoothing/OK. The Exponential Smoothing dialog box as
shown in Figure 16.19 will appear on the screen. In this dialog box, place data values in Input Range.
MS Excel computes the smoothed values by using a damping factor defined as (1 – exponential smooth-
ing constant). So, when placing damping factor 0.7, MS Excel will compute the smoothed value for =
0.3(1 – 0.7) as shown in ‘C’ column of Figure16.20. Place the required Output range and click OK. MS
