Focus
Another setting you need to be aware of is the focus. With auto-focus, the camera is preset with the shutter button half-pressed to initiate the auto focus. That means that whether you are using the shutter button or a cable release to trigger the camera, each time the button is pushed the lens will refocus. This can really hurt the chances of a clean panoramic photograph.
To guarantee that every frame is perfectly in focus, you have two options. The first is to simply put your camera and lens on manual focus. However, not every photographer has perfect eyes for focusing manually. I am in that boat as well.
