High dynamic range (HDR) photography is where you capture a series of bracketed frames (typically between three and nine) with one to two stops of shutter exposure difference between them. Using software such as Photomatix or Kolor Autopano Pro, the brackets are combined into a single image with a very wide range of exposure, color, and detail. The advantage of this technique is being able to capture highlights, midtones, and shadows throughout a scene and enhancing details that otherwise might have been lost.
