Protection
A rain cover is one item that I strongly encourage every photographer to carry. Rain covers can be inexpensive or expensive depending on what style you choose. Either way, a photographer should never be caught in bad weather without one. I personally use a rain cover from Think Tank Photo, which protects from rain, snow, and sand in the air. The cover wraps around a lens or lens hood, and then fits into a pocket or bag when not in use. Many covers are available from a variety of manufacturers.
If a reusable rain cover is not an option, I recommend the OP/Tech plastic rain cover, which is around $6 for a two-pack. These feel like a plastic zipper bag on top of your camera. While they do not provide the best protection out of all rain ...
