Public awareness of the limitations in simple credential-based authentication is finally starting to catch-up, as many are now required to use additional factors in their authentication process. 2FA is now going mainstream and, while it saw its beginnings in corporate VPN use, it has now spread to a wide variety of applications and even consumer products and services. Google, Dropbox, Facebook, and their competition--all of them are now offering different forms of 2FA to help secure their users and reduce the company's exposure to bad publicity.
