While engaged in the process of testing and educating the customer on their environment, you also have a chance to mentor and share insights. The staff developing, maintaining, and operating the application often does not receive the training required to bear such a burden. Roles may also be fuzzy, I quite commonly run into customers who, despite operating an environment for many years, still do not have a clear separation of powers and responsibilities. This last point is far and away the biggest indicator of systemic inefficiencies and security gaps that I encounter.
