Automate and adapt

Proactive security policies are something we should encourage, but haven't caught on with enough customers. This is an issue with smaller customer groups. Organizations that invest in automated toolsets and vulnerability remediation are one step ahead of the game, and many commercial vendors offer solution sets that can be integrated automatically within an application's environment, and provide continual analysis with intelligence feeds.

Open source tools also help in this regard, but there are several ways in which automated tools actually get deployed:
