Appreciative Inquiry is sometimes written off as a throwback to The Power of Positive Thinking or simply a desire to see the glass as half full. AI terms such as "Dream" and "Destiny" give some instructional designers heartburn. The paradox is that, while it is true that simply dreaming does not make something happen, you must first dream of something or it will never happen. As a learning professional, you are in a unique position within your organization. Appreciative Inquiry-style questioning can provide an opportunity to identify and articulate the dreams of your learners so that you and your team can help come up with the best ways to bring those dreams to life.
