Chapter 4. PSEUDO-LEARNING SCIENCE: A BIG REASON OUR TRAINING AND LEARNING ARE SO BAD (A REBUTTAL TO RUTH COLVIN CLARK)

Marc Prensky

In her article published simultaneously in this volume of the Annual, Clark uses principles she attributes to the writings of Marc Prensky as examples of design principles that run counter to the science of human learning and instructional design. In this rebuttal article, Prensky notes misunderstandings of his principles, scientific methods, and valid application of scientific data. While pointing out that there really is no science of instructional design, the author both refutes some of Clark's guidelines and provides his own recommendations based on observed successful applications and rational thinking.
