It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
PREREQUISITES AND PREPARATION
To use DiskPrep, you need a Compact 7 OS run-time image or an Ethernet bootloader configured to support the target device. In addition, you also need a bootable flash storage for the target device.
Following are two different DiskPrep usage scenarios:
1. To configure bootable flash storage for the target device to launch an Ethernet bootloader, EBOOT.BIN, to download a Windows Embedded Compact OS run-time image from the Platform Builder development station
2. To configure bootable flash storage for the target device to launch a Windows Embedded Compact OS run-time image, NK.BIN
DiskPrep to Launch EBOOT.BIN
To configure bootable flash storage for a target device, with a BIOSLoader, to launch EBOOT.BIN using DiskPrep, you need to have the following:
- Target device built with an x86 processor, with an Ethernet interface
- Windows Embedded Compact Ethernet bootloader, EBOOT.BIN, for the target device
- Flash storage device that can be configured as the boot device for the target device
- Mechanism to attach the flash storage device to the development station
DiskPrep to Launch NK.BIN
To configure bootable flash storage for a target device, with BIOSLoader, to launch NK.BIN using DiskPrep, you need the following:
- Target device built with an x86 processor
- Windows Embedded Compact OS run-time image, NK.BIN, generated in release mode with KITL disabled
- Flash storage device that can be configured as the boot device for the target device
