I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
CONNECTING TO THE TARGET DEVICE
To work through the exercise in this section to establish connectivity between the development station and the target device for the image download, you need to meet the following conditions:
- Successfully create the MyCompact7 OS design, from the exercise in Chapter 7, and build the OS design to generate a Compact 7 OS run-time image for the intended target device.
- Both the development station and target device attach to the same LAN with DHCP service to provide a IP address dynamically. Or both the development station and target device attach to the same LAN without DHCP service, and both have been configured with the appropriate static IP address within the same subnet.
- The target device has the necessary bootable storage configured with an appropriate Compact 7 bootloader.
Establish Connection to Download Compact 7 Image to Target Device
After you complete the previous conditions, work through the following steps to establish connectivity from the development station to the target device, to download a Compact 7 OS run-time image to the device:
1. If the MyCompact7 OS design project is not active, open the project from VS2008 IDE.
2. From the VS2008 menu, check to make sure the (auto) Ether option is selected as the device setting, as shown in Figure 8-1.
