IMPLEMENTING CORECON FOR APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

To implement CoreCon to support VS2008 application development for Compact 7, the required CoreCon files need to be accessible within the Compact 7 target device’s file system. There are multiple methods to accomplish this, with varying complexities.

The CoreCon for Compact 7 component, from the CoreCon4CE project on the Codeplex site, provides a simple method to include CoreCon to the OS design. With the CoreCon for Compact 7 component installed in the Platform Builder component catalog, you can simply select and include this component in the OS design and generate an OS run-time image with the required CoreCon files included.

Although using the CoreCon4CE component from the Codeplex site greatly simplifies the process, it keeps you from knowing the details. The manual process (the hard way) provides the best information to show the required components and steps to implement CoreCon connectivity on a Compact 7 target device. This chapter covers the following three methods:

  • After a Compact 7 OS run-time image is deployed onto the target device, manually copy the required CoreCon files to the Compact 7 target device’s file system, and launch CoreCon from the target device.
  • Edit the OS design project’s OSDESIGN.BIB file to include the required CoreCon files.
  • Select and include the CoreCon_v200_Compact7 component from the Platform Builder to the OS design. This is the CoreCon4CE component.
