CONNECTIVITY TO DEPLOY AND DEBUG AN APPLICATION

To deploy an application for testing and debug, you need to establish connectivity between the development station and target device. Deploying a VS2008 application to the target device for testing and debug uses different connectivity from an application developed as a subproject to the OS design from the Platform Builder IDE. To deploy a VS2008 application to a Compact 7 target device, the development station needs to establish CoreCon connectivity to the device.

A native code application developed as a subproject to the OS design compiles as part of the OS run-time image and downloads to the target device as part of the image, which requires a KITL connection to debug.

CoreCon

To establish CoreCon connectivity, the Compact 7 device needs to have access to the CoreCon files, installed to the development station as part of the VS2008 installation, from the following directory:

$(PROGRAMFILES)\ Common Files\Microsoft Shared\CoreCon\1.0\Target\Wce400\

Under the preceding directory, there are multiple folders. Each of these folders contains a set of CoreCon files to support a designated processor, with a corresponding processor name as the folder name. You can make these CoreCon files accessible to the Compact 7 device with one of the following methods:

  • Manually place these CoreCon files to the Compact 7 device’s local file system.
  • Add entries to the OS design’s OSDESIGN.BIB to include CoreCon files as part of the OS run-time image. ...
