It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

This specifies the maximum number of records you want to select. If the result in the query has more than this number of records, the LIMIT statement will limit your results list to this number. Sometimes, you can use it in conjunction with ORDER BY to showcase a top 5 or a top 10 list:
