The purpose of this hour was to provide you with a wide ranging overview of the CGI landscape. At this point you should understand, at least at a high level, how CGI programs work and what qualifies a program as a CGI program. You should also have a good idea which programming languages can be used to write CGI scripts, and the advantages and disadvantages of the most popular CGI programming languages. In the next hour, “Setting Up Your CGI Environment,” I’m going to tell you how to set up your computer so that you can begin writing and testing CGI scripts.
