Summary
Flat-file databases are a useful way to store rudimentary data structures between executions of a program. In this hour, I explained how flat-file databases are designed, and how to access them using Perl programs. I also explained, step by step, the four most common operations performed on data stored within a flat file. I also explained how to use file locking to protect your databases from being damaged by simultaneous access from multiple processes.
