When deploying Azure Functions under the Consumption hosting plan, the scaling is handled automatically by the platform. The compute power is dynamically allocated when the functions are triggered, scaled out if the load increases, and scaled in if the load decreases. The Consumption plan dynamically allocates CPU and memory resources by adding processing instances. Each instance is allocated up to 1.5 GB of memory.
The Consumption plan is ideal for short running functions that experience load fluctuation and may need to be scaled out quickly to process intermittent high load.
