Another spot to consider with potentially really nice light is the window’s cousin: an open doorway. This sometimes works really nicely because there’s often a roof overhang above a doorway. So you can be standing outside, shooting back toward the house or building, with your subject in that doorway safely shaded from harsh light. Of course, this doorway has to be on the shaded side of the house or building, and away from direct light, but it’s something to keep in mind when you’re on location and searching for some nice soft light.
