When we’re outdoors, shooting with the sun behind our subject is kind of our “go-to” position, and there are a number of reasons why we prefer this setup: (1) The sun winds up becoming a hair light or a rim light behind our subject, having this second light adds a bit more separation from the background, and just generally, it makes for more interesting lighting.
