Photographing Kids

There’s a simple compositional trick for photographing kids that makes a huge difference, and that’s to not shoot down on them from a standing position. We generally see children in our daily lives from a standing position, looking down at them, and while that’s the reality because of our height differences, it doesn’t make for a very engaging portrait. You’re seeing them as we usually see them. But, if you want to make really engaging portraits of kids, ones that are more personal, with a real connection, get down and shoot at their height level.
