If you’re going to have your subject look out of the frame, compose the shot so that they are not right up against the edge of the frame, and they’ve got some empty space to look into (as seen here). If you put them too close to the edge looking out, it makes the entire scene look a bit uncomfortable for the viewer. It’s the same with athletes in motion or racing cars or wildlife in motion—if they’re heading in a particular direction, leave some empty room in the frame for them to visually go into or you risk creating an image that subconsciously looks uncomfortable to your viewer.
