Perl Versions
As of this writing, the version of Perl slated for the Ubuntu 12.10 release at the time this was written is 5.14.2 (which is Perl version 5 point 14, patch level 2). This is the version that is available from the Ubuntu repositories. Perl is installed by default.

Linux and UNIX-like distributions, including Mac OS X. Updated versions might appear in the Ubuntu repositories, but they’re generally only security fixes that can be installed by updating your system.
