Effective leaders learn to grasp a key distinction—a contrast between two ideas. The first idea is the “how to” and the second idea is the “want to.” Most of the people you are trying to motivate believe that what’s missing in their lives is the “how to.” When they come to you for coaching, they often say, “I want to achieve this, but I don’t know how to do it. I want to succeed at this, but I don’t know how.”
