As already indicated, 8051 off ers two independent 16-bit count-up Timers designated as Timer 0 and Timer
1. e functions of these two Timers are more or less identical with some minor variations. A third Timer,
designated as Timer 2, is available in higher versions of 8051, like 8052. e function of Timer 2 is widely
diff erent from that of the other two Timers and demands separate discussion. We will take up Timers 0 and
1 at present. After completion of the discussions on these, we will take up Timer 2. However, for a quick
reference, the salient features of all three Timers are presented in Table 15.1
