INTERFACING: STEPPER MOTOR
In majority of cases, this common line is the ground reference line. Two common lines, namely, COMMON 1
and COMMON 2 are connected together externally, making a fi ve-wire interface connector for the stepper
motor. e external interface must be capable of independently turning on or off each of these four coils through
these fi ve connection lines. is may be achieved by using discreet transistors, as we have used for our DC motor
drive in the previous chapter. Dedicated ICs are also commercially available for stepper motor driving.
