SERIAL COMMUNICATION AND SERIAL INTERRUPTS
16.1.2 | Simplex, Full-Duplex and Half-Duplex Communications
e capabilities of simultaneous data fl ow directions generate three cases, namely, simplex, full-duplex and
half-duplex. In simplex communication, data fl ow is unidirectional like TV transmission. In the second case,
for full-duplex communication, the data fl ow is bi-directional at the same time, e.g. telephone. In the third
case, the data fl ow is time-shared bi-directional, i.e. unidirectional at any given time. Hewlett Packard Interface
Bus (HPIB) is an example of half-duplex communication.
