SUMMARY
Power management is achieved by freezing a portion or
whole processor. Generally this is achieved by preventing
the clock input through the activation of some related gates.
The 8051 off ers two such modes for power management.
The first one, designated as idle mode, decreases
the power requirement of the processor by as much as
75 per cent. It halts the CPU of the processor, allowing all
other parts to function as they are. A hardware reset or
some enabled interrupt input is necessary to bring back
the CPU to its functional state.
