When InDesign is first installed, it presents a default workspace (interface) that avoids being intimidating by showing very little of what you need. Its name, visible at the upper-right, is Essentials. Clicking on that name reveals the Workspace menu, which will be how we choose a more useful interface and save our own.
In order to make the figure above, I had to squish InDesign a bit. You don’t need to do that. But:
