The “Book” Feature

Some InDesign documents can remain responsive even when quite long, like novels with hundreds of pages. But when we start liberally adding graphics, perhaps anchoring them and applying text wrap, and use sophisticated features like GREP styles, InDesign’s performance takes a big hit. Luckily, we can break up large works into smaller pieces and assemble them with the book feature.

In this exercise, we’ll combine nine InDesign documents to create a magazine. We’ll ensure that their styles and swatches are in sync and that page numbers are continuous throughout.
