Summary

This chapter talked about mechanics that work in the social gaming arena. How you go about designing your game play to encourage people to come back and play your game on a regular basis is your special sauce, but some winning recipes include random progression, asynchronous play, and a reward system that allows you to earn new perks in the game, either through game play or purchase (or both).

One of the mainstays of the social gaming genre is the minigame, and in this chapter we worked through the development of the Tic-Tac-Toe game. This game introduced some new concepts, namely the use of artificial intelligence to enhance game play, as well as using bitmasks to optimize performance.
