The Facebook Development Platform

When Facebook first rolled out, it was a relatively simple web application for sharing information. The site was intended for college students, and for the first several years of its existence you had to have an email address that ended with “edu” to create a Facebook account. As the service began to grow, Facebook engineers began to think of ways that they could allow developers outside the organization to use their platform to help engage more users.
