1.3.1 Business Metadata versus Technical Metadata
The progression as seen beginning in Figure 1.1 has been accompanied by
metadata as each new technological advancement occurred. In some cases,
metadata was very obvious and easy to find; in others, metadata was not easy
to find at all. In the early part of the progression, metadata was fairly straightfor-
ward and simple. As the progression continued, however, and as the architec-
ture became more complex and varied, metadata became much more difficult
to fathom.
