The receiver measures the relative phases of the signals from each of the satellites to provide
what are termed ‘pseudoranges’. The GPS receiver then uses the Ephemeris data and also
compensates for element s such as the clock of fsets, effects of the ionosphere and troposphere,
and even relativity. The receiver uses all of this information to calculate its own clock error and
position. The overall calculation is somewhat involved, and uses iterative processes to reach the
final result.
In view of the time tak en to correlate with the GPS satellites, as well as the time taken to transmit
the data, the Time To First Fix (TTFF) is usually in excess of 12.5 minutes. Faster TTFF times from
