System overview
The NA-TDMA standard builds on many of the elements found in AMPS, containing many of the
features used in AMPS but implemented in a format suitable for a digital standard. It utilizes the
idea of control channels, as well as using different traffic channels onto which the calls are routed.
There are also features that are similar to the SAT tones used in AMPS.
The overall network architecture is similar to that of AMPS. Base stations are group ed together
under the control of a base station controller. This will manage or control a small number of base
stations and enable some of the local decisions and control to be effected close to the area where
the control is needed. This simplifies the central control that is required, and
