The system utilizes two types of physical channel to communicate with the mobiles: the voice
channel and the control channel. Both are present in the forward and reverse directions. As
seen from Table 5.1, the voice channels use frequency modulation to carry the voice traffic,
whereas the control channel uses frequency shift keying as this channel transmits data. There is
one pair of traffic channels (i.e. forward and reverse) per user, and one pair of control channels
