I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Combining shapefiles
In many cases, we need to combine multiple shapefiles, for example, when we need to merge the shapefiles of two contiguous areas. We'll merge two contiguous districts in Bangladesh, Dhaka, and Gazipur. We have shapefiles for both and we'll use the Data Management Tools of QGIS.
The steps are outlined here:
- Add the two shapefiles in the QGIS environment. Our display will now look like this. Please note that these two shapefiles are not one but two different files:
- Click on Vector in the toolbar, click or hover on Geoprocessing Tools, and then click on Union...:
- Select gazipur for Input layer and select dhaka for ...
