We'll now briefly look at the following basic terminology of remote sensing:
- Bands: Usually, reflected EMR is measured at a different range of wavelengths, which are called bands.
- DN values: This reflected EMR is converted into an image where each pixel corresponds to a discrete number (DN). This number is in the range of 0 to 255 for an 8-bit DN.
- Radiance: This is the energy or radiation that reaches the remote sensing instrument.
- Reflectance: This is the ratio of reflected energy to total sent energy or radiation.
