I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Clip raster by mask layer
Raster images normally come in tiles and cover all of the areas within that tile area. Now, to conduct a research or analysis, we might not need a particular area within this tile. QGIS has a very handy tool for selecting a portion of a raster according to the extent of another vector file.
Now we'll extract a Landsat image according to the shapefile of the Gazipur district:
- We'll work with band 2 of the Landsat image taken over Bangladesh. Gazipur is located at the bottom of the picture. We now load these two files LC08_L1TP_137043_20180410_20180417_01_T1_B2.TIF in All_data | Mosaic | 2 and gazipur.shp (in green) in the All_Data folder. This would look as follows:
