Clip raster by mask layer

Raster images normally come in tiles and cover all of the areas within that tile area. Now, to conduct a research or analysis, we might not need a particular area within this tile. QGIS has a very handy tool for selecting a portion of a raster according to the extent of another vector file.

Now we'll extract a Landsat image according to the shapefile of the Gazipur district:

  1. We'll work with band 2 of the Landsat image taken over Bangladesh. Gazipur is located at the bottom of the picture. We now load these two files LC08_L1TP_137043_20180410_20180417_01_T1_B2.TIF in All_data | Mosaic | 2 and gazipur.shp (in green) in the All_Data folder. This would look as follows:
