Maintaining the component repository is essential and ongoing; these activities ensure the continued commitment to preserving the components' assets over their lifetime. The need is particularly evident when considering the following scenario. A component supplier resubmits a component as a result of a change to the component. The change may have been caused by a defect resolution, enhancement to functionality, technology change, and so on. When the component has already been deployed in one or more solutions, the component's users (consumers) need to be aware of this new release and be able to assess its impact on their own solution.
