O–R mapping
One of the most useful and longest standing patterns is that of object–relational (O–R) mapping (Rumbaugh et al.; Allen and Frost.) In a component- and service-oriented world, this could be renamed component–relational (C–R) mapping, but the concept is still very useful. As service-based architectures are conceptually different to pure data architectures, a defined mapping is necessary. The preceding chapter on Select Perspective's data architecture discussed 'data components', which wrap relational data with a service-/component-based architecture.
