Business components can be identified in a number of ways: brainstorming, textual analysis, or use case analysis. Usually, combinations of these approaches are used to provide the first-cut model of the business components. This combination of ways is called 'chunking' and is usually undertaken as a joint session involving users and analysts.
A basic approach is:
Brainstorm a list of nouns or business services that describe the system (see strategies below.)
Group those nouns into a maximum of seven groups; there is no optimum number of chunks, but the number should be kept small and focused.
Review that grouping and add or reduce the number as appropriate.
