So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
39 MANAGE A MATRIX ENVIRONMENT
The command and control approaches to management have largely died out in modern businesses and matrix management is the way things get done in workplaces today. Matrix management is where you do not have direct line management responsibility for the resources working on your project. Instead, you draw on a wide range of internal teams, outsourcing agreements and joint ventures to bring resources to your project. In this sort of environment, influencing and negotiating are key to getting things done, and trust becomes a very important currency.
