44 UNDERSTAND THE CRITICAL PATH

The critical path is the longest route through a project schedule – the path that is made up of all the tasks which must be completed on time in order for the project to deliver to the planned end date. Critical path analysis works by identifying those tasks that must be done in sequence; those activities that cannot start until the preceding activity is completed. By default it also identifies those tasks not on the critical path where there is some leeway to delay work if you need to reallocate a resource to help catch up on lost time on a critical activity.
