23. SIMPLIFY WITH NEGATIVE SPACE AND MINIMALISM
PART OF PHOTOGRAPHIC composition involves distilling the scene or subject down to only the essentials needed to tell a story or create an image with an interesting and effective framing. This often involves filling the frame with the subject or at least giving it a prominent place in the composition. But give some consideration to the space around the subject and how that can be used to not only draw attention to the subject, but also to emphasize the subject’s place in the greater world around it (Figure 23.1).
