ONE OF THE most common compositional techniques involves taking advantage of the concept of the frame within a frame. This refers to elements in a scene that can be used to create a frame that the main subject is seen through. These frames do not need to be strict rectangular constructions (though these create natural frames, they just need to create an opening that can be used to highlight another aspect of the image (Figure 20.1).
