It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
49. THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTRAST
ONE OF THE most important aspects of making a photograph look its best is contrast. A single adjustment to this characteristic can make a huge difference in the image. Contrast is the difference between the bright and dark tones in the image. If the difference is pronounced and significant, the photo has high contrast. Darks are darker and light tones are brighter. If the difference between the lights and the darks is more subdued, the image has moderate or low contrast (Figure 49.1).
