WE’VE ALREADY TOUCHED on using longer exposures, or multiple averaged exposures, for night photography. One aspect of longer exposures is that any motion in the scene will be blurred, which can create some very interesting results. The native iOS camera doesn’t offer a slow shutter speed mode (the maximum exposure time is ¼ of a second, and speeds that slow are only used in very dim conditions). However, it does have a way to create a long-exposure effect from the 3-second clip created as a Live Photo.
