Appendix A. Networking and TCP/IP Overview
This appendix provides an overview of key concepts of computer networking, different link media, routing environments, and a routed network, all of which are needed in order to understand VRRP. It takes a closer look at key force fields of networking outlined in Chapter 1 to the extent that is required for a good understanding of the essential topics of availability and VRRP. The appendix outlines the topics of layering the network, forwarding the data and controlling, and securing and managing the network. It then assesses the impact of these tasks on the availability of the network.
