8.1. CLI Hierarchy
Irrespective of who the vendor is, the command-line sequences are usually organized as a hierarchy starting with “the chassis” or “box” at the root of the tree, with each level (for example, interface and protocols) forming the various branches. Additionally, the sequences can generally be separated into a configuration command hierarchy (those command sequences used to configure the router) and monitoring command hierarchy (those commands used to debug or troubleshoot the protocol(s) being configured). See Appendix A for generic examples of CLI commands and hierarchy.
