In the previous section the way in which executable business rules are created and

packaged as routines representing rules sets was discussed. When an application runs,

these routines must somehow be invoked. This is most frequently done by a user

selecting an option on a menu or clicking on a button on a screen. These compo-

nents of an application are built by hand by programmers, and this means that the

programmers have to know how to call the routines containing the rules sets.

In order to implement a rules invocation interface, the first requirement is to
